The Barton Hills Choir is made up of 6th graders from Barton Hills Elementary School in Austin, TX and is accompanied by local professional musicians. The choir is very excited to perform at the Evanston Bluegrass Festival in June and will be joined on stage by the one and only David Gans (The Grateful Dead Hour and Tales From The Golden Road). Mr. Gans and the choir will perform a set filled with Grateful Dead tunes and some other choir favorites.
With Special Guest David Gans
Known nationwide as a purveyor of literate, improvisational folk-rock with looping, singer/songwriter/producer/ photographer/author David Gans has composed, performed, and written about music for the whole of his adult life. His eleventh full-length album, Drop the Bone, is his most ambitious and accomplished record yet.
A David Gan performance is likely to consist of several elements: country-blues-style fingerpicking; loop-based improvisations created live in the moment; sweetly-sung ballads, original or borrowed; Grateful Dead songs reinterpreted to suit his voice and guitar; wry observations of the music-festival subculture and the larger world; soulful and passionate political commentary; favorites from the folk-rock canon of the last 50 years. Mix and match - it's never the same show twice, but it's always worth a listen.
